How to Make A Bootable USB Drive

Steps to make one with an .iso image in say, /home/dean.

  1. Format USB Drive. For Gnome users, open Disk Utility, unmount drive if mounted, and format.
  2. Then, open up root terminal (or invoke sudo/su privileges) and type

    dd if=/home/dean/nameOfISO.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M; sync

That’s it! (Replace the X in sdX with the corresponding letter (it was /dev/sdb for me: check to make sure; Gnome users can go to the Disk Utility to see.)

Thanks goes to the Debian Website.
